Things don’t always go as planned. Sometimes you spend weeks and weeks setting up for a big night, and then it rains. That’s what happened last night.
The day started out with all of the Miss USA contestants enjoying a tour on the Gray Line New York sightseeing buses while traveling throughout Manhattan. We began setting up for an incredible twilight cruise in the New York Harbor, but the weather had some other plans. Just as the girls buses pulled up to Pier 78, the rain began to fall. That wasn’t going to ruin our night, though. We made some last minute changes, found some umbrellas and carried on.
The media were moved inside as the girls walked down our new red carpet, posing for pictures before beginning the cruise.
By the time we got on the boat, we were all very hungry, and Pacific Grill provided some fabulous food for us to munch on. Our tour guide for the evening, John, took the microphone and we pulled away from the pier. John provided those of us aboard with some quick facts about the Miracle On The Hudson and the new tallest building in New York, One World Trade Center, before we made it to the Statue of Liberty.
A few of the girls were making their first trip to New York, and a few more had never gotten the chance to meet Lady Liberty, so this was a special moment for them. After stepping outside for a few pictures (despite the wind and rain) the girls came back into the cabin and prepared our return trip.
While the girls were the main attraction of the night, there were some VIP guests on board as well. Thanks to many purchasing tickets, we were able to raise a bunch of money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Helping this great organization was an incredible way to cap off the evening.
Ultimately, the night was a success. Yeah, the clouds may have ruined the sunset and the rain may have forced us inside, but we will proudly present a check for $10,000 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation all because of what we were able to do last night. Don’t forget to watch the Miss USA Pageant on June 3rd to find out who will be joining us for the pink ribbon cutting ceremony!
